After completing this eLearning game, kids will be able to:
  • recognize the basics of the chaining mnemonics system;
  • apply the linking system in your everyday activities;
  • use the chaining mnemonic system to memorize new information;
  • explain why the chaining mnemonic system is useful.

Welcome aboard the starship Magellan! Our mission for today is to find out about the Chain System. The Chain System is a mnemonic technique. It is also called a link system. Let me explain how it works. Lets begin!

You will be able to recall them in a specific order – even if the symbols dont seem to be connected in any way. The key is to be creative! The symbols must have unusual traits. That will make them easier to remember. Then, step by step, connect each symbol to the next one. Dont forget to connect the last symbol on the list to the first one!

Let's understand the process. We need to remember the following seven symbols. Their order must remain the same. Here’s the list: bear, book, dolphin, mountain, glass door, watermelons and phone. First of all, picture the first element as having an unusual trait. For instance, a red bear walking.

A flying book hits the bears head. The bear faints. Then, the book flies away!

Suddenly, a flying dolphin with glasses appears. It catches the bad book in mid air!

The dolphin flies upward and reaches a mountain top.

The dolphin wants to dispel the magic of the book. He smashes it into a glass door on the mountain peak!

The glass door shatters into many watermelons.

One of the watermelons is really cool and has a phone. He is making a call.

The same red bear as before answers the call! Guess they are friends!

We landed on Kepler-186f. This planet is 490 light-years away from Earth! Our task here is to memorize ten symbols using the Chain System.

Drag the items to the branches of the Vertigo Tree in any order you want.

Lets start the process!

Picture the first item! Consider it having unusual traits!

Now, connect the first item to the second one. Make them interact!

The second item must now be linked to the third one. Picture some action!

Connect the third item to the fourth one. Use your imagination!

The seventh item on the list will now meet the eighth one. Make sure you vividly see their encounter in your minds eye!

Now, young friend, imagine the eighth item and the ninth one performing a strange action together. Think outside the box!

The ninth item now meets the tenth. Visualize their interaction!

Move on with your story. Picture an interaction between the fourth item and the fifth one.

Imagine the sixth and the seventh elements in a funny situation.

This is the last step. Item Ten comes across Item One. Its up to you to decide whether theyre friends or not.

You have reached the end of the list. Take two minutes to go over your story again. Visualize every single detail!

The Chain System is a great tool to remember items! Lets test what you have learned.

Memorize the items from below and their order by using the Chain System!
